Diablo 3 Real Money Auction House Taxation - An International Approach

DIABLO 3 AND REAL MONEY AUCTION HOUSE TAXES

Today we have a Guest Post from Nev of AHAddict.blogspot.com, who has been dealing with these types of online income sources for a while now.  She offers a great inside perspective of the issues facing online profiteers with an international twist.

********************

Alto did a post recently about having to pay tax on your Diablo3 Real Money Auction House earnings which didn't surprise me. It's something I have been wondering about myself, even though I don't play Diablo3!
Now before I go any further, I am NOT a taxation advisor of any description, I am merely here to tell you how I, as a British taxpayer, got involved with the US Internal Revenue Service a few years ago & how my experience may give some idea how they will tax your RMAH earnings.
For me it all started back in 2006, I signed up with the then new microstock companies. These are crowd sourced image agencies selling photographs & illustrations from 1000's of artists for just a few dollars each. Most of these companies like iStockphoto & Shutterstock are US based but initially, contributors were receiving their earnings via Paypal without reference to where they lived & that was it.
Roll forward a couple of years & I received an email telling me that they would be witholding 30% of my earnings unless I filled in the relevant US tax forms. That sounded fairly simple but the W8-BEN form requests a US Social Security Number or a US Tax Identification Number. As a British taxpayer, I obviously didn't have either of these numbers so that's when it got panicky! But not just for me - almost every contributor to these microstock agencies, based outside the USA, didn't have these ID numbers & no idea how to get one.
Many countries around the world have a tax treaty with the US which in essence, prevents a person having to pay tax in 2 countries. With a SSN or TIN, I wouldn't have to pay the US tax as I was already declaring my earnings here in the UK. After many many forum posts across these multiple agencies, it was discovered that actually, we didn't need a SSN or a TIN, we could just fill in the form as directed by the agency with reference to the relevant tax treaty sub section (royalties in our case) & that was all that was required.
But it took maybe 3 months or more for that information to filter down & across all the sites. In the meantime, some of the larger contributors had paid experts to file relevant documentation to get their TIN. This was an expensive process including fees & visits to the US Embassy in their respective countries & for smaller contributors like myself, it was prohibitively expensive for the cash I was earning.
Since then, Zazzle, Cafepress & Clickbank have also requested these forms from me so I have to assume that the IRS has been looking at these internet based, crowd sourced content sites to make sure they are reporting earnings correctly.
So how does this affect Diablo3 players? Well, my personal thoughts are that taxes are everywhere & if people are earning real life cash in any way, the tax authorities want their slice of the pie. I believe Blizzard has a disclaimer when you start using the RMAH that it is your responsibility to declare your earnings correctly to your own tax authorities, but I'm not sure that will be adequate to satisfy the US Internal Revenue Service.
I think the IRS will want Blizzard to manage & account for everything they pay out to Paypal accounts across the world & we will see Blizzard having to implement a similar system to the Microstock companies. However, if Blizzard hit the same wall of confusing tax laws, there could be very mixed messages being sent out & many lost, angry & confused players around the world.
I'm here to say Don't Panic! It's really not that bad or difficult to sort out. I've included links to the IRS forms that overseas indviduals will need to fill out. All Blizzard will have to do is request your payment details & ask you to electronically submit the W8-BEN. Hopefully Blizzard will give clear instructions on how to fill out the form but the most important part will be the detail of the relevant section of the Tax Treaty. Unfortunately, I have no idea how the IRS will categorise RMAH earnings so I can't help you there!
So that's my experience with the US taxation authorities. It was very confusing at first but soon resolved into a simple electronic form filling & submission. I hope, if Blizzard does have to follow along similar lines, that there is enough experience out there now for them to be able to make it easy from the start. It's in Blizzard's own interest to keep it as simple as possible after all - they take a cut of all RMAH fees so they will want people to keep using it!

Thanks Nev, for the great insight into your experiences with making profits internationally online from a variety of sources.  I too believe that Blizzard won't be able to keep their "hands off" approach forever.  Currently, Blizzard doesn't require our SSN or TIN and neither does Paypal, so technically profits on the RMAH are "off the grid" (yet they are still required to be reported).  Another confusing bit for some is the myth that you need to make $600 from Diablo 3 to be required to report it in the United States.  No, if you make over $600 total from all sources it has to be reported.  It's not $600 per source.

I hope that behind closed doors, Blizzard isn't giving us the whole story and the reason the RMAH auction house fees are so outrageous is because they are paying our end of the tax within those crazy fees.  Doubt it, but would be nice.  Otherwise it would be very disheartening for those players profitting off of Diablo 3 as earnings of this type would be taxed at the self-employment rate, just like earnings on a US Form 1099.  Self employment tax rates are higher than normal because you have to cover the portion of the taxes that the employer would have covered as well.

Definately keep an eye out for tax information from Blizzard on D3 sources and other online virtual markets that lead players to real world profits.

Diablo 3 RMAH Flipping Formula Basics

Diablo 3 Flipping Formula Basics
Buy Low - Sell High

Flipping For Profit In Diablo 3

When it comes to turning a profit on the dual auction houses in Diablo 3, there are a variety of basic tactics for making gold and real money profits.  One of the main tactics for turning a profit is through "Flipping".
Flipping is the basic term used for the process of buying something at one price and selling it at a higher price, which results in a profit for the seller.
Flipping should not be confused with increasing an item's value.  A true flip uses the exact same item, in the exact same condition, without any improvements.  The item just gets flipped for a higher price tag.  Don't get it confused with flipping in the housing market, as often times those homes are fixed up before being resold.  Which means they were bought and then improved upon to get a higher value and selling price, so they aren't a true flip.

An example of Diablo 3 flipping would be buying an amulet off of the in game vendor to sell for a profit on the auction house, like I discuss in the post: Making Diablo 3 Gold With Amulets.

An example of improving an item's value in Diablo 3 would be buying an item with a poorly chosen gem and then replacing it with a more appropriate gem, like Adam discusses in his post: Swapping Gems For Profit

The Diablo 3 Basic Flipping Formula For The Gold Auction House

Anytime you are wanting to flip an item for profit, you need to be fully aware of the transaction fees associated with auction house sales.  While the cut that Blizzard rakes off of every auction house transaction is pretty steep, there still are profits to be made in both the Gold Auction House (GAH) and the Real Money Auction House (RMAH).  You must incorporate the fees into your prices or you could be losing money, when you expected to gain.

The Gold Auction House Rakes 15% of Your Final Sale Price

So when you buy an item to flip, you need to account for that 15% fee that gets rake off the top.

Cost / .85 = New Break Even Sale Price
So if you buy an item for 6,000 gold, you need to sell it for 7,059 gold just to break even.  If you flipped that 6,000 gold item for 7,000 gold, then you would actually be losing gold and would net 5,950 gold after Blizzard gets their fee.  Ex: 7000g sale - 1050g fee (15%) = 5950 Gold Net

NOTE:  Don't assume you can just multiple Cost x1.15 to get the correct sale price.  You must divide by 0.85 to get an accurate answer.

When using the RMAH, you have to account for two 15% fees for commodities and $1 +15% fees for equipment sales.  This means it is easier to focus on moving items you purchase with gold into RMAH sale, and focusing on equipment sales results in the lowest transaction fees.

What Is Nephalem Valor Buff In Diablo 3?

What Is The Nephalem Valor Buff In Diablo 3?

It's no Diablo 3 Gold Secret that the Nephalem Valor Buff makes farming for gold and items much easier and more profitable.  Stacking your Nephalem Valor Buff to 5 stacks is highly recommended when farming for gold and items.  So what is Nephalem Valor (commonly seen as NV)?

Nephalem Valor

  • Only earned once character level 60.
  • Gain 1 stack of Nephalem Valor per Elite, Rare, or Champion mob pack killed.
  • Max stacks allowed is 5.
  • Each stacks provides +15% Magic Find & +15% Gold Find.
  • Can gain total +75% Magic Find & Gold Find with full 5 stacks of Nephalem Valor.
  • 30 Min buff duration, but refreshed with new Rare, Elite, or Champion mob pack kill.
  • Leaving game or changing skills removes all Nephalem Valor.

  • Even a brand new level 60 Diablo 3 character with no good gold or magic item farming gear will see a huge benefit from the Nephalem Valor buff.  The buff to magic and gold find is additive, not multiplicative.  So while the Nephalem Valor buff will stack with the Fortune Shrine and other buffs, Magic Find on your gear, or extra Magic Find from your choice of gems for your helm, you simply add the 15-75% buff to your current magic find.

Preventing Accidental Loss Of Nephalem Valor Buffs

It is important to note that you will lose all buffs if you leave the game, but you also lose all Nephalem Valor if you change your skills around.  So if you need a specific skill set to beat your desired boss target, you must farm your stacks of Nephelam Valor in that same skill set up.

Some players have been complaining about accidentally moving skills around on the skill bar in elective mode with a misplaced mouse click, thus resulting in a loss of all stacks of the NV buff.  A simple fix to prevent this is to turn off Elective Mode once you have your chosen skill set up completed.  This prevents you from being able to accidentally move the skills around on your Diablo 3 character toolbar.

Get A Quick 5 Stack NV Buff In Act I of Diablo 3

Here's a quick and profitable route to a quick 5 Stack of the Diablo 3 Nephalem Valor Buff.

    • Take waypoint to Cemetary of the Forsaken
    • If Elite spawned kill, if not: Enter Crypts.
    • Clear each crypt until you get your 5 NV stacks.
    • Teleport to town and use waypoint to get back for each crypt.
Then once you have your full 5 NV stacks, you can head on to kill the Skeleton King, the Butcher, The Warden, or whoever else you are farming.

Diablo 3 Fortune Shrine & Other Shrine Tips

Shrines Are Great For Diablo 3 Farming
    Diablo 3 Shrines

Shrine Buffs In Diablo 3 For Farming

While wandering through the dungeons and wilderness areas of Diablo 3, you will encounter 4 types of shrines.  Each of the shrines in Diablo 3 offer a specific character buff that lasts for only two minutes, so you want to use each of the shrines wisely.  There are a total of 4 different shrines that can spawn anywhere in the game.  Of the 4 shrines there are 2 that give the better benefits to farming characters in Diablo 3.

The 4 Diablo 3 Shrines and Effects

    1. Blessed Shrine - Damage taken is reduced by 25% for 2 minutes.
    2. Enlightened Shrine - Gives a 25% bonus to experience for 2 minutes.  NOTE: The Enlightened shrine stops spawning in games where all players and followers are maximum level.
    3. Fortune Shrine - Adds an extra 25% Magic Find and Gold Find for 2 minutes.
    4. Frenzied Shrine - Increases attack speed by 25% for 2 minutes.

The Best Shrine Buffs For Farming

Of the 4 various types of shrines in Diablo 3, two of them provide the best benefits for farming gold and items: the Fortune Shrine and the Frenzied Shrine.  The Enlightened Shrine is great for leveling characters, but provides no benefit for a Diablo 3 farming character.  Similarly, the Blessed Shrine will help reduce your damage taken and help you stay alive, but has no direct effect on your killing speed or the items that your creature kills will drop.  The 2 clear winners here for farming characters are the Fortune Shrine and the Frenzied Shrines.

The Fortune Shrine is an obvious boost to farming in Diablo 3 as you will get a 2 minute buff that increases the amount of gold you will find from all sources by 25% and the Fortune Shrine also increases your Magic Find skill by 25%.  This 25% buff is additive and not multiplicative, so if you have 150% magic find, the new total would be 175% with the Fortune Shrine buff.  It is not an extra 25 percent of your current magic find level.

The Frenzied Shrine also grants another great buff for farming in Diablo 3.  A 25% increased attack speed may even be the better buff between the Frenzied and Fortune Shrines.  While the +25% Magic Find and Gold Find increase is a nice buff, you probably will get better results from the 25% increased attack speed.  Getting a 25% attack speed buff, greatly increases your ability to quickly kill creatures and will help you rack up far more kills during the 2 minute duration of the buff.  this one is great against the Treasure Goblin Clan as well, and greatly increases the odds that you can kill them before they jump through their safety portal.

Tips For Better Shrine Buff Use

    • The Shrines in Diablo 3 work during both solo and cooperative play sessions.  Be sure to notify your party members in co-op, when you find a shrine, because each character that is near the shrine will receive the buff.  Don't waste a shrine on just yourself in a co-op group.
    • Don't waste time looting until your buff is gone.  If you are looting during the buff's short 2 minute duration, then you aren't using the buff wisely.  Go back and loot everything once the duration of the shrine's buff expires.  Of course, if you have Demon Hunter ferrets, they will loot the gold for you.
    • You don't have to get the buff as soon as you find the shrine.  Wait until you find an area that is jam packed full of creatures, then grab the shrine's buff and get to killing.  The more creatures that are packed closer together, means more kills while under the duration of the buff.
    • If using the experience shrine buff or the magic / gold find buff, weaken all of the creatures with a AoE ability first.  Once most creatures are near death, then grab the shrine buff and finish them off.  This allows you to quickly gain the benefits from a large group of nearly dead creatures and increases the overall number of possible kills while under the buff's effects.
    • Don't waste the buffs on boss kills.  Most of the boss battles take a while to complete and odds are the buff will be gone long before the boss dies.  Worse yet, when your character dies, the buff is also removed.  So don't waste the shrine effects in areas where you are having trouble staying alive, unless it is the damage reduction shrine, which may just be the bonus damage prevention you need to get over the hump.

Which Gem To Use In The Helm Socket?

    Diablo 3 Helms And Sockets

In Diablo 3 many helms have an open socket for adding a Gem.  When a gem is added to a piece of Diablo 3 head gear, you get a nice stat buff that corresponds to the color and level of the gem added to the helm's socket.  Regardless of how you obtain your helm, you want to use one that has a socket so that you can take advantage of the great stat boosts too.  Gems all offer different stat boosts depending on what they are socketed into, be it a weapon, helm, shield, or other armor.  The following statistics apply when a gem is added to a helm.

    Gem Stat Bonuses For Helms

    • Amethyst - Up to 18% extra Life.
    • Emerald - Up to 31% extra Gold Find.
    • Ruby - Up to 31% more Experience Per Kill.
    • Topaz - Up to 31% more Magic Find.
The Amethyst Gem bonus is factored in after your other vitality stat bonuses and it stacks, so this is a great way to bump up your life pool.

The Emerald Gem is a great addition for farming gold as long as you aren't having problems staying alive.  It is especially beneficial for stacking onto a gold farming Demon Hunter with Ferrets for collecting the gold for you.

The Ruby Gem is great for leveling your Diablo 3 character more quickly.  Even if your goal is to create a farming character, getting to max level as quickly as possible is always going to be more profitable than farming the lower difficulty levels.

The Topaz Gem is a great addition to a Magic Find build as the Topaz Gem adds a nice buff to your Magic Find.  That is, if you aren't having trouble staying alive.

As you are leveling your character, for the Helm socket I would focus on a Ruby Gem first, followed by an Amethyst Gem if you are having problems staying alive.  Wait until you are at maximum level and are ready to begin your gold and magic item farming career, before switching out to a Topaz or Emerald for Gold Find or Magic Find.

    Death Is Bad For You

The biggest set back to farming efficiently is Death!  Dying is a major waste of your time, so focus on staying alive before focusing on maxing out your gold and magic drops.  Make sure to focus on having a balance of survivabilty stats and your major damage dealing stat before worrying about the other D3 farming character item affixes.  Dying and running back to your progress point are major time wastes and will drastically eat into your farming potential, if you are seeing the death screen a lot.  Not only is dying a waste of your time, but it is also expensive, as each death increase your repair costs.  These repair costs can get quite hefty when wearing higher level gear.  So try to avoid death at all costs.

Demon Hunter Companions - Ferrets For Gold Farming

    Remember Kodo & Podo?

    Demon Hunter Companion Pet Runes

I chose the Demon Hunter as my main Diablo 3 character for two main reasons.  I had much experience farming in Diablo 2 with the old Demon Hunter predecessor, the Amazon, and because of the great benefit of one of the Demon Hunter's companion options - Ferrets!

At level 17, the Demon Hunter unlocks the option to use the skill: Companion.  The Companion skill starts off by allowing the Demon Hunter to summon a raven companion that periodically attacks enemies, but rarely needs to be recast.  At various levels, the Demon Hunter unlocks that ability to use Runes to modify the Companion Skill to allow for the summoning of 5 additional Companion pets.  You can only ever have 1 Companion pet at a time.

    Various Demon Hunter Companion Runes

    • Spider Companion (Level 22) - Summon a Spider whose attacks also slow enemy movement speed by 60% for 2 seconds.
    • Bat Companion (Level 29) - A Bat replaces the Raven and grants 3 Hatred per second.
    • Boar Companion (Level 41) - The Boar has an attack that hits all enemies in the area of effect.
    • Ferret Companion (Level 49) - Summons Ferrets that collect gold for you and increased Gold Find by 10%.
    • Wolf Companion (Level 59) - Summon a Wolf that does twice the damage of the other Companions, but only lasts for 25 seconds per cast.

    Demon Hunter Ferret Companion

The Demon Hunter's Ferret Companions not only run around and pick up the gold off of the ground for you, but they also add 10% extra Gold Find!  How sweet is that?!?  Every little bit of extra gold will add up over the course of your characters Diablo 3 career, especially on the higher difficulty levels of Diablo 3, like Hell and Inferno difficulty.

The Ferret Companions are a nod to the old Beastmaster movie.  Remember The Beastmaster's pet Ferrets, Kodo and Podo?  They would run around and grab stuff for their master.  Diablo 3 Ferrets work just the same!

This is a sweet Rune choice for the Demon Hunter's Companion skill.  In addition to increasing the amount of gold that drops, and not having to worry about running around to loot the gold pieces, you also can free up one of the preferred affixes for farming characters.  You don't need to equip gear with the affixes that increase the Gold Pick-up Radius because your Ferrets will be picking up the gold for you.  That frees up some item slots for more damage dealing or survivability stats like Resistance or Vitality.

    Besides, who doesn't love Ferrets?

Diablo 3 Loot Pinatas - Treasure Goblin Clan

    Treasure Goblins In Diablo 3
Diablo 3 Loot Pinata - The Treasure Goblin

Treasure Goblin Clan - Diablo 3 Loot Pinata

The Treasure Goblin Clan monsters will soon become your favorite creature to encounter when exploring in Diablo 3.  Whether you are out farming solo or in a team, leveling a Diablo 3 character, looking for gear upgrades, farming for magic item drops or gold, or collecting items to sell on the auction house, you will always be pleased to see the appearance of the Diablo 3 loot pinatas: The Treasure Goblins.  These monsters truly are the loot pinatas of Diablo 3.

The Treasure Goblin Clan monsters appear in four different variants and can be found throughout any of the various Acts I - IV.  These Treasure Goblins can appear anywhere within Diablo 3.  All four types of Treasure Goblins share the same stats and behaviors.  They also will tend to be around the same level as the area that they are discovered within Diablo 3.

    The Four Treasure Goblin Variants

    1. Treasure Seeker
    2. Treasure Bandit
    3. Treasure Goblin
    4. Treasure Pygmy
Once a Treasure Goblin sees your character, it will flee at a rapid pace.  While the Treasure Goblin is running away from you, it will drop gold pieces along it's path of retreat.  Soon after fleeing, the Treasure Goblin will summon a swirling escape portal and it will try to jump through the portal and escape.  If you are able to kill a Treasure Goblin before it escapes through the summoned portal, then it will drop multiple magic items and often one or more of these magic items will be rare.  These Treasure Goblins can drop quite a nice chunk of gold and often drop multiple magic items when killed.  You can increase the odds of getting magic items and the amount of gold earned by wearing items with some of the Diablo 3 affixes for farming characters.

The Treasure Goblin Clan Monsters Are Immune To:
    • Slow
    • Freeze
    • Stun
    • Blind

    Treasure Goblin Clan Killing Tips

Be very careful when chasing after a Treasure Goblin, Treasure Bandit, Treasure Seeker, or Treasure Pygmy.  They can easily lead you into dangerous areas of the Diablo 3 map and into trouble.  Many times I have found myself chasing wildly after a Treasure Goblin and into a larger pack of monsters.  Sometimes my greed and the thrill of the Treasure Goblin chase will lead to my character getting killed.

I have noticed that a Treasure Goblin doesn't always notice you from far away.  This allows you to attempt to safely clear some of the surrounding monsters before the Treasure Goblin starts to flee.  This can be a big help.  You also may be able to move around to the opposite side of the Treasure Goblin and force him to flee away from you back towards an area you have already cleared.  This is handy when you encounter a Treasure Goblin in a long dungeon hallway.  On my Demon Hunter, I like to Vault ahead of the Treasure Goblin and shoot him in the face, which will send him back down the dungeon hallway from the direction I have already cleared.  Without having to worry about the addition of other Diablo 3 monsters joining the battle, you have a much better chance of killing a Treasure Goblin before he can escape through his portal will all of his magic treasure.

Anyone have any funny stories about getting killed from your greed, chasing a Treasure Goblin?

Making Diablo 3 Gold With Amulets

    Amulets For Sale

    Flipping Vendor Bought Amulets

The NPC vendors in Diablo 3 spawn random armor pieces that may or not be an upgrade for your character.  A few of these NPC vendors will also sell rings and amulets that you can purchase as well.  The best part about gear in Diablo 3 is that you can sell any gear you find, buy, or have already used because, unlike WoW, nothing binds to your characters.  That means any armor, weapons, rings, amulets, or follower items you obtain can be used by multiple characters and can be sold on both the gold based (GAH) and the real money auction houses (RMAH).

    Amulets Are Easy Money

It's no secret Amulets are one of the easiest ways to make gold in Diablo 3 on the gold auction house at the lower levels.  At lower levels of the game, you tend to find mostly armor and weapons, with the occasional jewelry drop.  When you do see a piece of jewelry drop, the rings tend to drop more often than the amulets.  Therefore, once you unlock the vendors that sell rings and amulets, you will probably be shopping for them for your own character because odds are you won't have found one yet from loot drops.  Don't stop at just outfitting the gear on your character though.  Other players will be wanting to purchase rings and amulets with great stat combinations, to help them level quickly.  Amulets are the better investment, because most players will have seen a handful of rings drop long before seeing any amulets drop from creatures and chests.

Using The NPC Vendors For Your Advantage

Since these NPC vendors in Diablo 3 randomly spawn the items they have available for sale, you never know what stat combinations you are going to have available to you for purchase.  So take advantage of any opportunity you get to purchase quality items when they appear on the vendor.  If you are on your Demon Hunter and the vendor is selling an ideal stat combination item for a Barbarian, go ahead and grab it for your low level or non-existant Barbarian character and transfer or save it in your shared stash.  You may not even get a good stat combination to appear on the vendor, while you are on the character that would best benefit from the item affixes combinations.  So transferring good items through the shared stash is a good idea.

The same thing applies for super amazing stat combination items.  Any of the nice low level damage boosting amulets (2-4 min-max damage boost at level 7 for example) will be good sellers and when coupled with one of the great item affixes for farming characters these good sellers become damn near instant sales.  I have been buying amulets that costs me 2.2k gold and am able to sell them on the auction house for 2-4 times the purchase price.  The best thing is they are selling in a matter of hours, which is crucial to prevent losing your items in the undercutting war.  When the stat combination is an excellent combination, these amulets can sell out in a matter of minutes.

So if you see a great stat combination for sale on a ring or amulet, stock up and buy a bunch to sell on the dual auction houses in Diablo 3.

Diablo 3 Gold Farming Tips - Abusing Summoning Creatures

Free Diablo 3 Gold, XP, & Loot
Diablo 3 Tomb Guardian - Skeletal Summoner

    Diablo 3 Gold Farming Tips

    Creatures That Summon More Creatures

Here is a Diablo 3 gold farming tip that I have experimented with on the live Diablo 3 servers.  While leveling my first Demon Hunter in Diablo III, I decided to play around a little bit and test out some of the in game mechanics related to the Summoning Type creatures within the Diablo 3 universe.  What I found was a handy bit of information that can be used to maximize the farming ability of your character as you are running through the various Acts and difficulty settings of Diablo 3.  Let's look a little deeper at what I found out and how we can use it to our advantage to make gold in Diablo 3.

Within Diablo 3 there are creatures, champions, and bosses that summon in more creatures to join the fight.  The first ones you run into on Act I that summon more creatures are the Tomb Guardians.  Tomb Guardians are skeletal magic casters that shoot arcane orbs at you, but the Tomb Guardians also create a purple portal to summon in more Skeleton warriors during the battle.  Here's where it gets interesting.

    Normal Summoning Creature Mechanics

In most games, the developers have the mechanics of summoning creatures set in one of two ways.
    • Summoners are worth XP and Loot, but their summoned minions are not.
    or
    • The pre-existing summoned creatures are worth loot and experience, but any future summoned creatures do not reward XP or loot.

    Diablo 3 Summoning Creature Mechanics

In Diablo 3 the mechanics of some of the bosses, triggered events, and spawning towers follow these same rules, but not all of the do.  As a matter of fact, I found that Tomb Guardians and other summoning creatures do in fact reward XP, gold, and loot.  The pre-existing summoned creatures protecting them are worth XP, gold, and loot and the creatures that they continue to summon in also award XP, gold, and loot.  Most games don't allow a loot table or experience to be gained from the freshly summoned creatures to prevent people from just farming the summons.  Well, it may just be a bug or something overlooked in Diablo 3, but the summoned creatures are farmable on some creatures, champions, and bosses in Diablo 3 and they each continue to award XP, gold, and drop loot too!

Taking Advantage Of Diablo 3 Summoners

You can gear up with a set of magic find gear, gold find gear, or a combination of both of these great farming item affixes to further increase your rewards from the summoned creatures.  Not all summoning creatures and bosses follow this same pattern though.  All you need to do is watch your XP bar and see if gold and items drop off of the creatures that get summoned in to the fight to see if this hold true for the creatures you are battling.  A single Tomb Guardian can summon in 10 or more Skeletons to join the battle before running out of mana.  Jondar the boss in the Cathedral that is killed by the Templar is easily abused in this same fashion as well.

I like to kill all of the pre-existing creatures first and avoid attacking the summoners, then I just kill the summoned creatures for extra XP, gold, and loot - including magic items.  It's gets real nice when you find a group of 3-4 Summoners that continue to pour summon creatures onto you giving you even more loot, XP, and gold.  When you find a boss or a champion that you can abuse the same way it is even more profitable as they drop better items, more gold, and award more experience.  Do this at the higher difficulty settings and with even more gold find and magic find gear for even more of a Diablo 3 Gold Farming extravaganza.

    Happy Diablo 3 Farming!

Diablo 3 Item Affixes For Farming Characters

Diablo III Item Affixes For Farmers

Diablo III has a ton of affixes for all of the items within the game.  The term "affixes" covers both the prefixes and suffixes that may appear on an item when it is created within the Diablo 3 game.  Items are assigned random affixes when they are created in game, either as drops off of monsters, from crafting, or when they are available for purchase from the local merchants.  Knowing what Diablo 3 item affixes to look out for to not only use yourself, but also to snatch up and sell to others, will be a big benefit.

Let's take a look at some of the top Diablo 3 item affixes that are going to help out farming characters.  Farming characters (or Farmers for short) are characters that focus on acquiring gold or items to sell for a profit, be it on the Gold Auction House (GAH) or the Real Money Auction House (RMAH).  The basic function of a farming character, whether farming solo or as part of a group farming team, is to maximize the ability to quickly collect resources from within the game.
Here are the 4 most beneficial affix sets within the Diablo 3 Item Affixes options.  Not only will items with these affixes be optimal for your own farming characters, but items with these Diablo 3 affixes will also be good items to sell on the in game auction houses of Diablo III.

Top 4 Diablo 3 Item Affixes For Farming

    1. Magic Find
    2. Gold Find
    3. Gold Pick-Up Radius
    4. Movement Speed Boost
Farming for profit is all about finding items and gold as efficiently as possible.  The top 4 Diablo 3 Item Affixes for farmers all play into that notion of getting items and gold as quickly as you can, but also work on increasing the quality or quantity of the drops in game.  Let's look a little deeper at each of the top 4 item affixes for farming characters.

Magic Find - Magic find bonuses give a % increase to your chances to find magic items.  Increasing your magic find percentage is one of the best things you can do to have a better chance at getting magic items from creature kills.  When you combine gear that gives a bonus to magic find with a multiple player game, you can benefit from both better loot tables and better chances to get those items to drop.

Examples of some of the Diablo 3 item affixes for magic find are:
    • Karma
    • Luck
    • Worthy
    • Resplendant
    • Glimmer
    • Glittering
    • Dazzle
    • Scouting
    • Seeking
    • Ransacking
    • Pillaging
Gold Find - Gold find is another great item affix to add onto any farming character's gear.  Gold find will add an extra % of gold to the total gold dropped from monsters within Diablo 3.  This can be a major benefit to farming gold because every single monster you kill will drop a flat extra percentage of gold each and every time.  If you are farming kills for gold drops, then this is a must have on your farmer's gear.

Examples of some of the Diablo 3 item affixes for gold find are:
    • Lucky
    • Glittering
    • Prosperous
    • Golden
Gold Pick-Up Radius - The gold pick-up radius bonus item affixes are also nice additions for farming characters.  In Diablo 3 you do not have to manualy loot the gold off of the ground.  You can just run over the pile of gold and it will be looted for you.  The basic radius for picking up gold is rather small and without a gold radius boost, you have to run just right over the piles of gold to loot them.  With an increase to your gold pick-up radius, you only have to get close to the gold pile and you will collect it.  The larger your radius, the farther away you can loot from, which increases your speed and efficiency for farming.

Examples of some of the Diablo 3 item affixes for gold pick-up radius boosts are:
    • Gathering
    • Greedy
    • Miserly
    • Avaricious
Movement Speed Boosts - The final of the Diablo 3 Item Affixes that are ideal for farming characters is the set of affixes that increase your character's movement speed.  Increasing your movement speed is beneficial in more ways than you may initial think.  Not only will you be able to more quickly move throughout the wilderness and dungeon areas in Diablo 3, but having an increased movement speed can be a life saver.  Being able to outrun the monsters chasing you can save your character from death.  Getting killed is one of the major setbacks to any efficient and speedy farming run.  So an increased character movement speed will not onl help you progress through the games levels faster, but could save you from the long run back to where you were should you die.

Examples of some of the Diablo 3 item affixes for movement speed increases are:
    • Rapid
    • Stride
    • Jaunt
    • Leap
    • Flash
    • Quick
    • Nimble
    • Bounding
    • Swift
    • Fleet
A combination of all 4 of these Diablo 3 Item Affixes for farming characters will be ideal for creating a quick and efficient farming character to earn you profits on the Diablo 3 dual auction houses.  Look out for items with these affixes on the auction house, the vendors, and as monster loot so you can use some of the gear yourself or toss it on the auction house to make a quick profit.

Are there any other Diablo 3 Item Affixes that you think are important for a farming character?

The Diablo 3 AH & RMAH Fees Are Revealed And They Suck!

The Diablo 3 AH Fees Are Official

The fee schedule for both Diablo 3 auction houses has finally been released to the public.  The Real Money Auction House (RMAH) and the Gold Based Auction House both have seperate fee schedules.  You can read the Official Diablo 3 Blizzard Auction House Guide and The Official Battlenet Diablo 3 Auction House FAQ for all the details.  I've been anxiously awaiting the release of this Diablo 3 auction house fee information, but I am highly discouraged with the outrageous fee schedule they have decided upon at Blizzard Entertainment.

Blizzard - The Diablo 3 Black Market Thanks You

With AH Fee cuts this high, you can bet your ass that the Black Market for Diablo 3 items and gold will once again be very active.  One of the goals / benefits of creating the in game RMAH in Diablo 3 was to combat the rampant use of Black Market sites and vendors for buying gold, gear, runes, and commodities.  With the crazy high cost of doing RMAH business for a profit, many will turn again to selling on the Black Market to make more money.  Why help Blizzard out, when they are robbing you of your profits?!?  Taking nearly 30% of the cut is highway robbery and if that amount isn't lowered, then the Black Market will be the place to buy and sell Diablo 3 gold and commodities.

    Blizzard's Diablo 3 Fee Schedule

RMAH Items are divided into 2 main groups:
    1. Equipment (Gear and Weapons)
    2. Commodities (Gold, Crafting Materials, Gems, etc)
The good news is that there is no fee to list items on either auction house.  Blizzard will however be taking a cut when your items sell and if you choose to cash out to your Paypal account, Blizzard will take another cut.  The fees on the gold based auction house (GAH) are a flat 15% fee for sold items regardless of what type of items they are.

    RMAH Sold Item Fees
    • Equipment - Final Sale Fee $1 per item.
    • Commodities - A Flat 15% of the sale price.
Transfer to Paypal Fee (Cashing Out)
    • A flat 15% cut goes back to Blizzard when you opt to cash out.
    • Another Paypal fee to receive the payment may apply as well.
So if you choose to sell a $10 sword on the RMAH, then the fees would look like this.
    • $10 Sold Item Price
    • Blizzard takes $1 since it is equipment.
    • $9 goes to your Blizzard Bucks account or your Cash Out account.
    • When you do cash out, that $9 would cash out for $7.65 since Blizzard takes 15% as a Cash Out Fee.
    • So $10 earned you $7.65 in US Dollars.
Let's same you sold $10 in gold pieces, then the fees would look like:
    • $10 Sold Item Price
    • Blizzard takes 15%, leaving you $8.50.
    • $8.50 goes to your Blizzard Battle Bucks account or your Cash Out Account.
    • When you cash out, Blizzard taxes you another 15% of the value, so you cash out for $7.22.
    • So you earned $7.22 in US Dollars.
The higher the sale price of the items, the more of a discrepancy will exist between selling equipment and selling commodities.  A $50 equipment sale would net you $41.65, while a $50 commodity sale would earn you only $36.12.

I bet the black market service providers won't be charging anywhere near that high for their sales fees.  We shall wait and see if Blizzard really did win the war against the black market sellers.

Diablo 3 Secrets & Other D3 Guides Are Scams

    Are Diablo 3 Guides Scams?
    Diablo 3 Gold Guide Salesmen

Be Warned: Diablo 3 Guides Are Scams

Diablo 3 Guides are all over the internet these days.  Anyone selling you a Diablo 3 guide right now is a SCAMMER.  Whether it is for the Diablo 3 RMAH, Diablo 3 Secrets, Diablo 3 PvP Tactics, or a Diablo 3 Leveling Guide, every single one of these guide creators is a Liar and a Scammer.  So don't waste your money on a Diablo 3 Guide.  Let's go over why the Diablo 3 guide sellers are all liars and scammers.

    The Diablo 3 Sales Pitch

It is a common tactic to talk up your product's value in order to get more sales, but many of these guide sellers for Diablo 3 strategy, RMAH, and leveling guides are outright LIARS.  Anyone who has a slight understanding of Diablo 3 and how the Diablo 3 Beta and Diablo 3 Beta Weekend worked, should be able to see through the lies of these charlatans and internet snake oil salesmen.

Some of the common themes that you will see across multiple Diablo 3 Guide sales pages are:

    • Top Strategies For Max Levels
    • Own The Diablo 3 PvP Arena
    • The Best Diablo 3 PvP Strategy Guides
    • Total Class Mastery
    • Max Out Your Levels In Record Time
    • Testimonials Of Previous Guide Users
    • Dominating The Diablo 3 RMAH Auction House
    • Diablo 3 Secrets For Leveling
    • Diablo 3 Gold & Auction House Tactics To Make Real Money

How Do You Know These Diablo 3 Guides Are Scams?

The Diablo 3 Beta just ended today 05-01-2012 and there are a ton of Diablo 3 guides already online that claim to have all of the secrets to the game.  How is that even possible?

    Facts:
    • The Diablo Game has multiple levels and 4 difficulty settings all the way up to Inferno Mode.
    • The Diablo Beta only allowed you to play to the VERY FIRST BOSS on the 1st Act of the 1st Difficulty Setting.
    • The Diablo Beta restricted all characters to a maximum of level 13!
    • The Diablo Beta had NO PVP at all - NONE!
    • The Diablo 3 Game launches on May 15th and WILL NOT INCLUDE PVP.
    • PvP Is going to be added at a later patch to Diablo 3.
    • The Diablo 3 RMAH (Real Money Auction House) saw very limited testing in the D3 Beta.

    • No One has got past level 13.
    • No One has seen past the first boss.
    • No One has seen any quests, items, or monsters past level 13.
    • No One has any experience with Diablo 3 PvP.
    • No One has experienced any professions other than the Blacksmith.
    • No One has live experience of the Real Money AH.

    NO ONE

Anyone claiming otherwise is an outright Liar who is just after your hard earned cash.

Here's a PRIME EXAMPLE of the kind of Lying Scumbag Scammers that are after your money.
Diablo 3 Secrets at Diablo3Secrets.com (No - this is NOT an affiliate link)

Take a look through his sales page of LIES.

"I leveled up in record time, Got tons of game cash, and Mastered Diablo 3!"
Really?  How did you get past level 13?  There was no in game cash payout in Beta, and you didn't master anything but the art of selling lies!"

    "Own the PvP Arenas!"
There is no PvP yet and won't be at launch.  Stop Lying To Us.

He shows an picture that says it is an image of him "Killing Bosses with my Barbarian Effortlessly!"
WRONG Thats an image from the Free Diablo Fan Site Building Kit from Blizzard.  He flipped the image to a mirrored picture to make it less obvious that it's a generic screenshot we all have access to in the free fan kit.  No one saw any bosses past the very first boss.

He claims he learned from "Observing Top PvP Players and Players with the Top Gear" to create his guide.
Again, no one got past Level 13, so what Top Gear could you have seen.  And there is no damn PvP fool.

The seller also claims that his previous buyers have:
"Maxed out their levels in Record Times!"
    "Have become PvP Gods!"
    "Achieved Total Class Mastery!"
Lies, Lies, & More Lies!  The game isn't even out yet and you have buyers who are PvP Gods and Max Level?  Nice Try Scumbag.

BE WARNED - Anyone selling you a Diablo 3 guide prior to the Launch of the game is nothing more than a Liar and a Scammer.  Don't fall for these tricks and traps to steal your money.

And anyone with a testimonial on their site is full of shit too.  No one can give you a testimonial of how well your guide works, 2 weeks prior to the damn launch of the game.  They are all FAKE Testimonials!

It's not just this Scumbag Peng Joon using these same tactics of Lies and Deceipt.  It's damn near every single Diablo 3 guide on the market prior to the launch of the game.

When Diablo III launches on May 15th, 2012, the Brady Games company will also be releasing their popular Diablo III Signature Series Strategy Guide.  This year Brady Games has chosen to release 2 versions of their Diablo 3 Strategy Guide.  The Brady Games Diablo 3 Strategy Guide will be available in a Standard Edition, but also will be available in a Limited Edition version for a bit more cash.  Brady Games has been making quality strategy guides for years and I expect this one to be just as popular.  I myself have purchased the Brady Games guides for Diablo, Diablo 2 and the Diablo 2: Lords of Destruction expansion.  I can personally attest for the quality and usefulness of their guides in the Diablo franchise.  The information has always been very helpful in learning the skill trees, character abilities, dungeon maps, boss encounter strategies, loot charts, and tons more.
